Project Challenges

Cultural and linguistic material is only useful if it can be found. Scattered files and PDFs are archived, not published.

A reference site succeeds or fails on structure rather than on styling.

  • Unstructured sources Entries arrive as documents and recordings rather than as records, so structure has to be imposed before anything can be browsed.
  • Search over browse A reference works when a reader can arrive at one entry directly, which puts the weight on URLs and search.
  • Ongoing contribution The material grows, so adding an entry cannot require a release.

What we built

We modelled the entry — the unit a reader actually wants — first, then built browsing and search on top of it, with everything editable from the admin.

Project Summary

Kui material is published as browsable, linkable entries, and new ones go in as content.
