Project Challenges
A marketplace has to be worth joining before anyone is on it, and plants are a category where photographs, seasons and shipping all complicate the listing.
Two-sided products are hardest at the beginning, which is what this had to survive.
- Two sides at once – Buyers arrive for range and sellers arrive for demand, so the product has to be tolerable to both while it is small.
- Listings are the product – Sellers are not photographers or copywriters, so listing well has to be the path of least resistance.
- Living stock – Availability changes with the season and the weather, which ordinary inventory models handle badly.
What we built
We made listing fast and forgiving, and kept search and browsing honest about what is actually available now rather than what was listed once.
